I had been eying these and these for a very long time. I tried them both out and came up with a mixture of both that I love and others have told me they love too. Don’t get me wrong though…both the Chocolate Cream Cheese Cupcakes & Cookies and Cream Cupcakes linked here are fabulous unaltered. I just happen to like the combination of ingredients I’m about to share with you. These Oreo Cream Cheese Surprise Cupcakes are very easy using store bought cake mix & frosting. I couldn’t begin to describe how they taste. They are everything a sweet dessert should be and MORE!
I like how these photos will prove to you just what a messy baker & cook I am. Look at the blue sprinkle above or the generous amount of crumbs and batter spillage below if you don’t believe me. 😉
Here’s how you create them.
Make a store bought cake mix according to package directions. I’ve tried both white cake mix & chocolate…both are great with the oreo filling inside.
Add half an oreo to each paper liner with the white filling side facing up.
Put a heaping tablespoon of batter on top of each oreo half.
Prepare the yummy cream cheese filling and put a teaspoon of it on top of the chocolate batter for each cupcake. Top that with one more heaping tablespoon of batter.
Bake according to the cake box directions & prepare your frosting by combining some buttercream frosting with lots of crushed oreos. I crush them by hand so they are not too fine. Crush a few extra oreos super fine to garnish your cupcakes with.
You will have this heaping bowl full of creamy sweet goodness when you are finished folding in the oreos.
The cupcakes will look like the photo below when they come out of the oven if all goes well. Don’t worry about the cute creamy centers popping out here and there. They add character to these tasty treats. Cool the cupcakes COMPLETELY. Then go ahead and pipe on your frosting and place 1/2 an oreo right into it as shown below. Garnish the cupcakes with a sprinkling of crushed oreos for a nice look.
The crunchy bottom combined with the luscious chocolate cupcake is enough to make people swoon…but the creamy surprise center will blow their minds! And…I forgot to cut one of these babies in half to show you how beautiful the centers truly are. I guess that means you need to make these soon so you can see & taste the insides for yourself. 🙂
If oreos aren’t your thing…try changing the store bought cake mix to funfetti flavor and adding vanilla cookies with filling instead of oreos to the funfetti frosting. Not a bad revision if I do say so myself. Don’t forget the sprinkles!
